Inês Brites
estrela-lágrima
3+1 Arte Contemporânea is pleased to present estrela-lágrima (teardrop-star), the upcoming solo exhibition by Inês Brites (Coimbra, 1992) at the gallery.
Inês Brites’ work refers to what is familiar, starting from found and produced objects, in an exploratory conversation about materials and their purpose. Using unorthodox techniques, the artist questions the meaning of objects, analysing the impact of these bodies on the individual, society, and culture, through the memories of our daily lives and intimacy. Her works are governed by curiosity, vulnerability, humour and a desire to connect different materialities.
teardrop-star is the name of a star that is bound by gravity to a dead star. The intense magnetism that binds and pulls them together forms the shape of a tear. Ever closer to each other, the two bodies wait for their moment of collision to merge and cease to exist individually. In the same way, the works in estrela-lágrima are also linked to a pair, creating a relationship between two objects that merge into one.
The exhibition transports us to another universe, a mystical environment where natural motifs serve as support for manufactured objects. These elements coexist in a loving relationship, where they come together, reverse roles and hold each other. So, we find ourselves in a garden of sculptures, that speaks of the things that are loose in the world and that inevitably meet. After this special encounter, however fleeting, they will never be the same again.
