3+1 Arte Contemporânea is pleased to present Nuno Sousa Vieira’s first solo exhibition at the gallery, titled Me, myself and the others.

Nuno Sousa Vieira has developed an extensive practice around his artist’s studio, located in the former SIMALA Plastics Factory. The sculptures, a vast array of industrial materials, architectural elements, and neglected furniture, result from a process of translating the workspace into work material, and later into work subject.

In this exhibition, Sousa Vieira presents one of his most self-representative projects, in which each work informs or conducts the observer towards a determining event in his practice and/or thinking. Me, myself and the others is simultaneously the title of the show and of one of the artworks. This artwork concedes the time and the space for all essential intermediates, both material and immaterial, in the artist’s creative process. The exhibition occupies the two floors of the gallery space, starting with a work titled Inhabitants. Facing the viewer, it evokes an ambiguous temporal dimension, assuming a distant starting point, but projecting itself hypothetically unto whenever the viewer wishes. Finally, on the lower floor, we encounter works installed on the ‘other side’ of the wall of the exhibition room itself – not the gallery’s wall, but that of the artist’s studio.
