This summer, 3+1 Arte Contemporânea has gladly entrusted the gallery space to PADA Studios. We are pleased to host and announce the opening of their curated project TAKE CARE.

TAKE CARE is a group show of residents and artists connected to the residency center PADA Studios. The show brings together eight international artists who were invited to work around the concept of care in its different aspects: Alex Wolkowicz (German, 1978), Alia Hamaoui (British/Lebanese, 1996), Bregje Sliepenbeek (Dutch, 1986), Diana Cerezino (Portuguese, 1988), Emilie Peyre Smith (French/Dutch 1985), Inês Neto dos Santos (Portuguese 1992), Lennart de Neef (Dutch, 1990) and Tim Ralston (British, 1982). The variety of practices presented reflects on the challenges and differing approaches towards the creative process.

This presentation highlights care for material concerns, a sensitivity towards its fundamentals and the fabric of our surroundings, alongside care as an act of awareness for others, the environment and personal wellbeing. Although hardly figurative the works in this exhibition display a reality – the artistic process connecting the viewer to the physicality of the studio. There is no illustrative nature in the process, nothing being depicted, instead a creeping of reality from the world around us.

PADA is an artist-led, non-profit arts organisation based in Barreiro in Lisbon’s South Bay, located within the once Companhia União Fabril (CUF) industrial park, now Baía do Tejo. Created in 2018, PADA provides artists a space to develop their practice, interact with other artists and explore new approaches in a post-industrial environment.

During the course of the exhibition there will be a parallel program of events in Lisbon and Barreiro. Information of events will be available leading up to the opening of the exhibition.
