3+1 Arte Contemporânea is pleased to present Dios me odia (God hates me), the most recent solo exhibition by Juan Tessi (AR | PE, 1972) at the gallery.
In a derisive and tongue-in-check manner, Dios me odia (God hates me) an exhibition of paintings by Juan Tessi unites two different apparent stylistic and parallel lines of work together. By assembling these bodies of work, the artist proposes narratives which hold the same language, while creating conversations free for interpretation by contrasting varying modes of pictorial methods to interplay with one another.
Boundaries, controls and territories are built, dissolved and some are unclear in the compositions, furthering the sensitivity of the artist not to define the works. There are figures, forms, landscapes that metamorphosize and shift in focus, scenes that evoke the visceral, that spurn our thoughts to imagine the continuation of the compositions to extend beyond the limits of the canvas. This liberty and approach to the show beckons an alternative way of viewing both the works individually and as a group, engaging the paintings in any way one choses.
The formal nature and stringent concepts usually employed in conceptualizing an exhibition, here are blurred, permitting the artist and the audience to navigate as they see fit without time limitations, judgement or condemnation.
